Piper Dorsal Fin

Piper Cherokee Dorsal Fin shown on the Piper Arrow.

This Cherokee Dorsal Fin approval package includes drawings and the FAA approved Supplemental Type Certificate to approve installation of the Piper or Globe Fiberglass parts on your PA-28-140, 150, 160, 180, R-180 and R-200 with the original "Nixon Nose" fairing.

Dorsal Fin Technical Description:

The Cherokee Dorsal Fin modification requires removal of the Piper fin fairing P/N 63517-00 (Nixon Nose). The new dorsal fin fairing is installed in two pieces. The forward fin section is riveted permanently to the fuselage. The aft section is installed with screws and is removable for inspection and maintenance.

The labor time for installation of the Cherokee Dorsal Fin is approximately three hours. This time does not include paint. Painting may be accomplished off of the airplane (before final riveting) or on the airplane (after final riveting).

The Cherokee Dorsal Fin fairing smoothes the airflow over the vertical fin and rudder to improve rudder control effectiveness. The dorsal fin fairing adds beauty and makes the airplane appear to be a much newer and more expensive model. A slight cruise speed advantage is gained.
